Hepatitis B virüs (HBV) infection is a disease which can be prevented by vaccination. Nowadays many effective and safe vaccines have been developed. Although HBV vaccinations are begun in 1982 in the world, the vaccination rates cannot reach to adequate level all over the world. Correspondingly, in Turkey, although universal HBV vaccination is begun in 1998, it also cannot be reached to adequate vaccination rates especially between adults. In this review, to contribute to importance of these infections, we summarized hepatitis B vaccination history, general rules, side effects and efficiency of HBV vaccination and different important points.
